Is there a co-pay for my visit?

No. All consultations and evaluations are free. The only time money is collected will be IF the patient agrees they want the item to be ordered or manufactured.

Why do I need a prescription?

If you want to use your insurance to cover a product, a prescription is required. If you want to pay for the product out of pocket, you would not need a prescription.

Why do I need to come into the office for an exam?

In order to determine the best fit, we recommend that you come in to get measured, casted, or molded to ensure that fit.

Will this be covered by insurance?

MAYBE. Insurance is very difficult to predict because of the multiple plans and changing nature of coverage. We will contact your insurance company to determine what will be covered before letting you know. We will not proceed on any type of product without the patient's permission.

How much will my device cost?

Again this will depend on your insurance and the device that is needed. We will always check your benefits and try to give you the most relevant and up to date information we get from the insurance companies.

Do you fabricate all of your orthotic and prosthetic devices in house?

We try to fabricate as many items as possible within our 3 labs so that we eliminate production factors that are out of our control. Due to the complexity of some products, we occasionally need to use a trusted vendor to manufacture and ship the item.

Do I have to fill out paperwork?

Unfortunately Yes. We are a medical provider and we require the most current patient information. This keeps us in compliance with agencies such as HIPAA and allows us to bill your insurance.

What type of warranty does our company offer on your products?

All products get a 3 month warranty. Capital offers a 6 month warranty on all custom products that we make in our fabrication lab except for soft goods like pads and straps.

What is a toe filler and is it necessary?

A toe filler is a “block” custom made to fill in the empty space in a shoe where an amputation of the toes has occurred. It is necessary for patients with amputations of the great toe or part of the forefoot to prevent excess movement in a shoe. Excess movement can cause friction which can lead to callusing or open sores. These are very dangerous for patients with decreased sensation like neuropathy.

What is a UCBL?

This is an orthotic that fits into a patient's shoe to assist the patient not to walk on the inside of the foot. It is custom molded to fit comfortably into a patient's shoe. It is cut higher than a foot orthotic to help hold the patient's foot in place at the heel to offer more stability and correction for many of the anomalies of the feet.

How can a knee brace make my arthritic knee feel better?

All osteoarthritis knee braces use some kind of 3 point pressure system to open up the compartment of the knee that is causing the pain. The location of the pain will be determined by the x-ray that the physician took of your knee. The 2 points of force applied to the thigh and calf are pulled in opposite directions of force to help “open” the affected side to reduce the bone on bone pain.
